A Taste of Spring

We had one beautiful day last week. It was in the mid 60's and we spent the whole day just sitting out side. I took the chance to take Savana's 9 month pictures and some fun pictures of Canon. Savana is still just cute and sweet and just likes to sit. Because she is not showing any interest in moving around she actually qualifies for some special education from the school district. I don't know what they are going to do to help her to start crawling or at least rolling around, but we will see. They already told me that I need to help her stay on her stomach 10 times a day for 5 minutes each time. Wow!! Because she flips like a fish right onto her back every time we put her on her stomach, I have to sit with my legs straddling her so she can't flip over. Doesn't seem to hard - it's just hard to remember to do it that many times a day. Anyway - we'll see what they do - and what all the money they pour into the school system here does. Interesting. Personally, I think she is just too interested in being right next to me or watching Canon zoom about that she really hasn't given much thought to going anywhere.

Canon is having fun with the big kids in our little apartment circle. In the picture here they are all watching a cement truck fill some holes in the street. The bigger kids are nice to let him tag along with them every once in a while. They have played hide and seek a couple of times with him and he chases them around on their bikes. The day we were outside all day, Canon was almost begging to get in his bed - without stories or a bath. He asked me to turn out the light - which was out. It was just still light outside. He was asleep by 6:45 p.m. Then with Savana asleep by 7:15 p.m. and I can't remember where Seth was that night, I almost didn't know what to do with myself. I think I ended up cleaning the bathrooms.

Jr. Engineer

Canon is growing up so much lately. He is so much fun. His favorite toys lately include his Duplos and Bristle Blocks, much to his fathers delight. At this rate, if Canon continues to enjoy building and creating like he does, I think Seth will start buying him every set of Legos that he finds and join him on the floor instead of going to work. Canon has built airplanes, cars, houses complete with bushes, and this week he built a fan. He even uses his hammer to pound the Bristle Blocks together while he is building. We were both a little surprised at the fan, since we don't have a fan that looks like that. I'm sure it is a result of his time spent with his favorite shows - Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Club House or Handy Manny. Where ever it came from, it sure is a cool fan, it actually really turns and swivels. Canon is pretty creative in his play with Savana as well. They love to make each other laugh and Canon has decided that her feet make an excellent phone. He dials her toes and then puts her foot up to his ear. She likes it at first, but I think it starts to annoy her after a while.

Speaking of Savana, we went to her 9 month appointment. She is growing and doing almost everything she should. She really has no interest in crawling or putting any kind of weight on her legs. Which is great for Mom, since I can put her on the floor and know she will be right where I left her if I could actually go anywhere without her, but she doesn't let that happen too often. She pretty much wants to be within 5 feet of where I am. What a change from Canon :)

Oh what do you do in the Winter time . . . when everything is frozen.

OK, It 11:00 a.m. on March 2nd. I just checked the weather and the current temperature is 11 degrees!!!! I thought I was done with weather in the teens. So, to keep my self from crying, I have decided to write about the great things there are to do when it is cold. The problem is, when it is this cold, I don't even want to go outside to get into the car! But I will deal with that later. I've posted some pictures of the Ice Festival we went to at the end of January. It was about 10 degrees that day too. Only, I think the high was 10 degrees that day, today it is supposed to reach 18 degrees. Yeah, I agree, what is the difference!!
OK, now for the positive. Our area here in Michigan has the best libraries ever! We went to a new one on Friday. It was GREAT. There several different kinds of play areas for the kids, a playhouse with a table, chairs and play food, a Thomas the Train table, letter magnets on the wall, huge shelves of puzzles, computers with all kinds of learning games on them and of course a zillion kids books. The kids section of this library is bigger than the entire Bountiful Library. The worst part of our library trip was getting Canon to leave when it was time. To be honest, I didn't blame him. Usually I am ready to leave a play place that I am at with him, but I could have stayed longer.
Other things we do when it is cold? The mall has an indoor play place so we have been there to meet people several times. There is also a pet store there, so we usually hit both adventures in that trip. There is a really nice indoor pool here at our complex, but Canon has for some reason decided that he doesn't like wearing swim diapers. So we haven't been there recently. But LuAnn has made a reservation at a hotel near by in a couple of weeks from now, that has an indoor swim park. We are excited to crash her party over there for a couple of days. Indoor swim parks are kind of a big thing at hotels around here.
The last picture is of Canon in our indoor rice box. He wanted to continue playing with his dump trucks and loaders after it was too cold for the sand box so we made a rice box instead. It has been great. We have to vacuum rice up every couple of weeks, but it is worth the little bit of rice on the carpet.
Ok, I think I feel a little better.
